LOWER BACK PAIN

The lower back is an area of stability for the body where our spine achieves most of its forward and backward movement. Apart from the delicate nerve structures, the lower back is surrounded by strong stabilising muscles which act upon it to maintain strength during our daily activities.

The lower back is the foundation to the body where we have the most forward and backward movement. The nerves of the lower back also continue into our legs which is a reason lower back pain and sciatica often present together.

Lower back pain affects as many as 90% of Australians at some point in their lives. Unfortunately 10% of these suffer chronic pain as a result. Often lower back injuries are associated with lifting, sleeping awkwardly, sporting injuries and prolonged sitting or an inactive lifestyle.

A thorough examination involves orthopedic and neurological examination to identify if the disc is involved before providing safe and effective treatment.
